Why plan a week of sub-shop meals at all

Fast-casual spending is unusually hard to track because every individual purchase looks reasonable. Nobody regrets a twelve-dollar lunch. The regret arrives at the end of the month, when the card statement shows fourteen of them. Planning a week in advance is not about restriction — it is about seeing the aggregate number early enough to do something about it.

See the weekly number, not the daily one

A $12 sub feels small. Five of them is $60, and that is the figure that actually moves a monthly food budget. The planner shows the week total the moment you build it, before any money is spent.

Calories per day, not per sandwich

A single 930-calorie Original Italian is unremarkable. Paired with a bag of chips and a fountain drink twice in one day it is a different picture entirely. The daily average column is the one worth watching.

Find the swaps that cost nothing

Ordering the same sub in a bowl removes 290 calories at the same price. Dropping to a mini cuts both cost and calories. The planner makes those trade-offs visible side by side instead of theoretical.

Plan once, decide nothing at 6pm

Most overspending at a sub shop is decided in the queue, hungry. A plan built on a Sunday afternoon removes the decision entirely, which is the part that actually saves money.

Three plans worth copying

These are starting points rather than prescriptions. Build one in the planner above and adjust it against your own week.

The tight-budget week

Around $55 for five weekday lunches

Five minis rather than five regulars. The mini sits close to 470–560 calories on most cold subs and costs meaningfully less, and if you routinely leave a third of a regular in the wrapper you lose nothing by dropping down. Bring your own drink every day — a fountain drink five times is roughly sixteen dollars on its own, more than the gap between a mini and a regular across the whole week.

The calorie-aware week

Under 700 calories per sub meal

Lean on the hot subs, which surprises most people: the Chicken Philly lands at 660 and the Portabella Mushroom & Swiss at 620, both below every cold Italian-style build. Order two of the five days in a bowl to remove 290 calories each time. Skip chipotle mayo — adding it to a Philly moves the number from 730 to 1,000, a bigger jump than changing the protein.

The two-person week

Around $95 for four shared dinners

Order giants and split them. Two people sharing a giant get more filling each than two regulars would, for less total money, because the price gap between regular and giant is smaller than the size gap. Add one shared side rather than two. This is the single most reliable way to cut a two-person sub bill without eating less.

Questions about the planner

Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email capture and no account of any kind. Open the page and start tapping.
Where does my plan get stored?
In your own browser only. Nothing is sent to a server. That means the plan survives closing the tab, but it will not follow you to a different device or browser, and clearing your browsing data removes it.
Can I put two items in the same slot?
Yes. Tap as many as you like — a sub, a side and a drink in one lunch slot all count toward the totals separately.
How do I get a PDF?
Press Save PDF. That opens your browser’s print dialogue, where you choose "Save as PDF" as the destination. The item picker and buttons are hidden from the printed version, so you get a clean one-page week.
Are the prices exact?
No, and no independent guide can promise that. Every location is a franchise and sets its own prices. Treat the totals as a planning estimate, and expect delivery apps to run 15–25% above the figures shown here before fees.
